Custom Size Labels for Clothing
Woven size labels are the premium choice for clothing brands that want consistent, wash-resistant sizing information that holds up for the full life of the garment. Available in alpha, numeric, European, and children's sizing — each size a separate design, different quantities per size in one order, from 50 pieces per design.
Sizing systems and placement
Which sizing system to use
- Alpha (XS / S / M / L / XL / 2XL / 3XL). Most universally recognized across global markets — T-shirts, sweatshirts, knitwear, outerwear, and most casual and activewear categories.
- UK numeric (8 / 10 / 12 / 14 / 16). Standard in UK womenswear and some Australian markets. Required for structured garments into UK and Australian retail channels.
- European numeric (34 / 36 / 38 / 40 / 42). Used for womenswear sold across continental Europe. Often a retail compliance requirement for brands exporting to EU markets.
- Children's (by age or height). Age-range sizing (2/4/6/8) for US and UK markets; height-based (92/104/116/128 cm) for most EU markets. Custom text — "ONE SIZE", waist/inseam, fit terminology — all available.
Where size labels go
- Left side seam, 5–15 cm below armhole. The most common position for standalone size labels on tops and dresses. Flat sew-in, inserted in seam. Invisible from exterior, keeps neck reserved for brand label.
- Inside waistband at center back. Standard for trousers, skirts, and shorts. Flat sew-in stitched along both long edges, fully enclosed within the waistband.
- Combined with care label in side seam. Both size and care on one label — the most space-efficient option for fitted garments with limited seam real estate.
- Not recommended at neck. Size belongs where it is easily referenced during dressing — side seam or waistband, not the neck position.
Construction and ordering
Flat sew-in construction
No fold — the label is a flat woven rectangle that lies fully within the seam allowance. Standard dimensions: 20–30 mm wide, 30–50 mm tall for size-only labels. Size text should occupy 40–60% of label height. At 25 mm wide, "XL" in a clean sans-serif is clearly readable from 30 cm.
Combined size and care
Size designation at the top in large text. A thin dividing line below. Care symbols and fiber content in the centre zone. Country of manufacture in small text at the bottom. Typical dimensions: 25–35 mm wide by 60–80 mm tall. One label eliminates the need for a separate care strip.
Ordering across a size run
Each size is a separate design. Specify different quantities per size in one order — e.g., 100 XS, 200 S, 300 M, 250 L, 150 XL for a 1,000-unit production run. Reorders can be placed per size — no requirement to reorder all sizes together.
Permanent, wash-resistant thread
The same polyester thread as all Peach Labels woven labels — colour woven into the thread, not applied as ink after weaving. Does not fade, bleed, or become unreadable through repeated washing at any standard temperature. Full detail at the quality woven labels guide.
Design considerations
Single size vs size range labels
- Single size labels are the standard — one design per size, identical construction and colour across all variants, only the designation changes.
- Size range labels ("S–M", "L–XL", "ONE SIZE") suit brands with limited size runs or dual-fit configurations. ONE SIZE requires only a single design.
- Custom text ("FIT 1 / FIT 2 / FIT 3", "SLIM / REGULAR / RELAXED") — any notation can be woven.
Consistency across sizes
- Same font, background colour, dimensions, and text positioning across all variants — labels should look identical except for the designation.
- Background: white or cream on dark garments for maximum contrast; black or dark navy on light garments.
- Text contrast: at least 4.5:1 ratio for reliable readability in low-light retail environments.
- Choose the sizing system for your market — alpha, UK numeric, EU numeric, or children's
- Order at minimum 50 pieces per size — quantities can vary between sizes in one order
- Consider a combined size and care label to reduce label SKU count and assembly steps
- Request a sample proof before the full production run to verify text clarity at label scale
