Types of woven tags, by where they go

The tag's fold decides how it is sewn in. Pick the placement first, and the fold follows from it.

Neck tags

The classic brand tag at the back of the neck. A center-fold tag loops into the neck seam with the soft fold against the skin. Standard on T-shirts, hoodies and sweats.

Hem and side-seam tabs

Small tabs that show from the outside of a hem or side seam, often with a logo only. A center-fold tab sewn into the seam, or an end-fold tag stitched on top.

Flat sew-in tags

No folds: the tag is stitched flat on all four sides. The least bulk, so it suits knitwear, baby clothes and linings. See sew-in labels.

Premium jacket and bag tags

Manhattan fold folds all four edges under for a finished, framed tag on outerwear, denim and bags. Book cover fold wraps a garment edge and brands both sides.

Size tags

Small woven size tags next to the brand tag, or the size woven into the brand tag itself. Plan a size run with custom size labels.

Iron-on woven tags

A heat-activated backing for makers and quick finishing. A few stitches around the edge make them permanent. See iron-on woven labels.

Woven tags, printed tags and hang tags

Woven tags

The design is thread, so it lasts as long as the garment. The right choice for the brand tag customers see every time they wear it. Our damask weave holds text down to about 0.06″ tall.

Printed tags

Ink on satin or polyester tape. Best when the tag carries a lot of small text, like fiber content and wash symbols, which is why care labels are printed. Compare both in woven vs printed labels.

Hang tags

Removable card tags for price, barcode and brand story, attached at the point of sale and cut off after purchase. Printed on 280 gsm card. See custom hang tags.

Upload your logo or build the tag from text in the online designer. The preview shows the woven result and the price updates as you change size, fold and quantity.

FAQ

Woven tags, answered

A woven tag is a clothing tag made by weaving the design into the fabric on a loom, rather than printing ink on top. The logo and text are built from colored polyester thread, so they cannot fade, crack or peel. "Woven tag" and "woven label" mean the same product: the brand tag sewn into the neck, hem or side seam of a garment.
Yes. Clothing brands, factories and shoppers use both words for the same sewn-in brand mark. "Label" is the trade term; "tag" is what most people call it in the garment ("cut the tag out"). Hang tags are different: they are the removable card tags attached with a string or fastener, and they are printed on card, not woven.
From our published cost study, 50 woven tags of 2″ × 0.8″ with two thread colors cost $61 in total and 1,000 cost $245, loom setup included. Quantity moves the price far more than size. The configurator shows the exact price for your size, fold and quantity before checkout.
Standard runs start from 50 pieces per design. If you want to see your own design woven before a full run, a Proof Pack weaves just 5 pieces. There is no setup or digitising fee at any quantity.
Center fold is the standard neck tag on T-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts: the tag folds in half and both cut ends are sewn into the back neck seam, so the smooth fold sits against the skin. End fold tags are stitched onto a finished surface such as a hem or a bag. Flat sew-in tags suit fine knitwear where bulk matters. The fold type guide compares all of them.
Yes. Because the design is thread, not ink, a woven tag looks the same after years of washing. Our damask tags are woven from pre-dyed polyester thread and are rated for 60°C machine washing. Heat-cut edges are sealed during cutting, so they do not fray.
Artwork is reviewed within 24 hours of ordering, production takes 8–10 business days from artwork clearance, and US shipping takes 1–3 business days. Reorders of an approved design dispatch in 5–7 business days. We ship to the USA and Canada.
